Skill India is a flagship project of Government of India launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 15th July 2015.
In line with the National Skill Development Mission of the Govt. of India, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoP&NG) has taken an unique initiative of setting up several Skill Development Institutes (SDIs) in different parts of the country with the support of all Oil PSUs.
In this line, Odisha got the Oil Ministry's first Skill Development Institute (SDI) at the State Capital. Following this, five more SDIs, i.e. Vizag, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Guwahati and Raebareli have been established.
SDI, Bhubaneswar has completed 5 years of successful journey in skill training of unemployed and underprivileged youth of Odisha and provided placement support.
District authorities handed over 46.172 Acres of land out of 60 acres of land allotted by State Government. I thank Govt. of Odisha for helping in this initiative and look forward to their continued support for SDI for ensuring smooth functioning and in all future initiatives.
This model institute has multitude of skill courses relevant to the industry in general and Oil & Gas sector for providing employable skills with placement opportunities in addition to encouraging entrepreneurship / self-employment. More courses will be launched in due course of time. Also, provision is being made for having incubation centres to encourage innovation among the youth and to promote start-ups.
Oil companies have invested Rs. 500 Cr for establishing modern state of art skill development institute. There are very few in the country which have come up with such major investment and state of art infrastructure for the cause of skilling youth and enhancing livelihood.
This institute will run professionally with the courses aligned with global standards and is expected to benchmark various skill training processes and will become a shrine for all best skilling practices and innovations. There are programs aligned with Futuristic skills like Industry 4.0, IT, renewable energy etc. through Center of Excellences with the support of major industries and institutions.
